The East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP) Project, also known as the Uganda–Tanzania Crude Oil Pipeline (UTCOP), is a project that involves the construction of a pipeline from Kabaale – Hoima in Uganda to the Port of Tanga in Tanzania in the Indian Ocean. The project is owned by TotalEnergies, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC Limited), the Uganda National Pipeline Company (UNOC), and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC). The project will have potential negative impacts on Endangered Eastern chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii). Currently in its development phase, the project plans to begin construction in 2024. The ARRC Task Force contacted TotalEnergies in 2020 to raise concerns of the impacts of its activities on chimpanzees within the landscape.
