East African Crude Oil Pipeline

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP) Project, also known as the Uganda–Tanzania Crude Oil Pipeline (UTCOP), is a project that involves the construction of a pipeline from Kabaale – Hoima in Uganda to the Port of Tanga in Tanzania in the Indian Ocean. Uganda also plans to build a refinery in the Western Region of the country to meet local demand. Because the oil is viscous, it will be necessary to heat the pipeline along its entire length. EACOP will thus be the longest electrically heated pipeline in the world. the pipeline traverses habitat of the Endangered Eastern chimpanzee.
