Mahale Ecotourism Project

Tourism

Nomad

Nomad is an ecotourism company running operations in Tanzania. One of their tours takes customers to see Endangered eastern chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) in Mahale Mountains National Park (MMNP), Tanzania. Nomad was seeking a loan from a lender following best practice standards to support its tourism activities. The ARRC Task Force was thus consulted to provide comments on the potential impacts of these tourism activities on chimpanzees and to provide guidance on how to improve the mitigation of these impacts. In 2021, the ARRC Task Force convened a panel to review Nomad’s tourism project in MMNP and provided comments.
