Palm Oil Plantations

Olam Palm Gabon S.A.

Olam Palm Gabon S.A. (hereafter Olam) is a palm oil company in Gabon that was established in 2011 as a joint venture between Olam Global Holdings (60%) and the Republic of Gabon (40%). Olam operates six palm oil plantations covering 202,000 ha in Gabon, in addition to mills, crushing plants, and palm oil refineries within the country. All six plantations are located within the range of the Endangered central chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes troglodytes) and Critically Endangered western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla). The project is currently in the exploitation phase. The ARRC Task Force was first contacted by Olam in 2022 to review the project’s ape mitigation measures and monitoring protocols to align with IFC PS6. Comments were provided to the company (see below) and the engagement is ongoing.
